Hello. My name is Daae and I'm from the tri-state area. I divide my time between central New Jersey and Morningside Heights, on the Upper West Side of Manhattan. Thank you for this community. As a "New Yorker," it does my heart good to see so many people rally around our city during what has been a really tough year for us all.

I'd like to take a moment to ask you to join my new community, holiday_stress. The holidays invoke feelings of sadness and loss in many people, especially due to the events that have been taking place in our nation. I'm hoping that this community will provide some help and support for people who experience a tough time during the holiday season. If you would like, please feel free to also post a link in your own personal LJ's to this community. I'd like to get the word out to as many people as possible. If this can help just one person, it will all be worth it.

Thank you so much.

More information on holiday_stress, a new Livejournal community:

The loss of a loved one, the degeneration of a relationship, Mother's Day, Father's Day, September 11th, Valentine's Day, the anniversary of a death, a birthday, and most especially perhaps, the "holiday season," Thanksgiving through New Year's, often invokes depression, extreme stress and sadness in many people.

This community is here to provide a loving, compassionate, caring and supportive network amongst those who find the traditional holiday season, as well as other times of the year that are especially meaningful, difficult to handle.

All are welcome to join. Feel free to share your story, or perhaps you'll find solace through simply listening to other people.

COMMUNITY RULES

1. No one will be discriminated against on account of their gender, race, religion, class, background, etc. I love you all, you all love each other. End of story.

2. I have no patience for people who play "I Can Top Your Tragedy." The purpose of this community is not one big whiney "My Problems Are So Much Bigger Than Your Problems" fest. If you have the attitude of "My issues are greater/more tragic/deserve more attention because I lost a parent/a best friend/a pet iguana and So-and-So only lost her cousin/sibling/cat," then I will eject you from the community and make horrible faces at you through my computer screen. All issues and problems will be respected with equal value. We're here to support each other, not to make things worse. Please keep that in mind.

3. If you are old enough to type, then you are old enough to refrain from throwing a hissy fit if someone disagrees with your opinion respectfully. You are also old enough to be able to disagree with someone in a polite enough way so as not to invoke hissy fits in other people. I quit working with children because I couldn't take the tantums; I'm not about to deal with them for free right here. Since I can't duct tape your mouth shut, I'll be free with the ban button if I feel you can't put a lid on it.

4. Listen to each other. Perhaps we'll all be able to learn something, help someone, make it all a little easier...
